A fascinating lecture about copyright – A Song’s Tale: Mashups, Borrowing, and the Law
Professor James Boyle tracks back the origins of a song ("George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People") to show how each song and musical style relies on previous work. Boyle uses this exmaple to explore and hypnotize how copyright law effects, or might effect, the development of culture.

Boyle’s book ‘The Public Domain’, is great, and you can download it freely from http://www.thepublicdomain.org/download/ . It includes the “George Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People” example, and many more, and exaplains beautifully how we got to where we are in Intellectual Property law, and what needs to be done to fix it. Highly recommended read.
